John’s fishing roots trace back to SoCal and Baja, where his dad initiated him into sport fishing at age of 10 on San Diego’s sport fishing boats. His early experiences included catching Albacore and the challenge of preserving them in gunny sacks without ice. Throughout his life, fishing has been constant, even during his military service, affording him access to areas many anglers can only dream of, spanning from Cuba to the Indian Ocean. As an avid tournament angler, John & his teammates have excelled in various events, winning or placing in a range of species, including Marlin, Dorado, Yellowtail, Sierra, Wahoo, Yellowtail, and Albacore. In the Pacific Northwest, he navigated offshore waters before the era of advanced technology, relying on instincts rather than GPS and temperature charts. Now the owner of Eat Me Lures, John enjoys engaging with fellow anglers, discussing optimal lure designs and fishing locations. The company takes pride in its track record, of achievements like catching the largest Marlin in Baja for five consecutive years, with at least four fish weighing in at 1,000 pounds or more.

Ron Atwood (Southern California)

Pro-Staff

My name is Capt. Ron Atwood. I had held a U.S Coast Guard 100 ton masters license for over 20 years. During the time I have created various water sports businesses in Kapalua Maui, Kapalua beach activities. I have owned and operated water sports businesses in South Padre Island, Texas as well as the Cayman Islands and 6 pack-fishing charters in SoCal. I grew up in SoCal, have fished these waters for 40+ years. Over the last 20 years we have put together and impressive list of tournament finishes, as well as numerous appearances within publications such as Western Outdoor News, The Log, Fish Taco Chronicles, Bloody Decks, and Fish Dope. I was named by Pacific Sport Fishing Magazine as a top ten West Coast Skipper. I have a rich history of placing well in fishing tournaments on the West Coast. In the early 2000’s our team fished in nearly all the W.O.N. fishing tournaments (as well as other West Coast tournaments), and we regularly finished with high placements. In the later 2000’s the team split up in order to focus on our family and kids, as our kids were going through high school, and the kids were very involved with extra-curriculars like sports. Recently we put the fishing boots back on to pursue competitive fishing. I’m pleased that we picked up where we left off. Last year we placed 1st once again in the W.O.N. White Sea Bass tournament at Catalina Island. Targeting big Bluefin Tuna in the 100-300 pound range off Southern California. Yamaha’s support would ensure your presence at all of the major events on the West Coast including the W.O.N. Tournament Series along with on the Internet and magazine exposure. I can say this with confidence because we have done this before with Pro-Staff support from companies such as Eat Me Lures, Assault Premium Bass Lures, and Booyaa Fishing Wear. I can also say with confidence that each of these companies have been very happy with the feedback & publicity they have received.

Tommy’s journey into the fishing world started before he could walk, immersed in trade shows, playing with lures, even napping under the display tables.
